Singing Workshop with MATTHEW HAMILTON

Saturday 30 June 2018

What a fantastic day enjoyed by 38 singers.  Matthew Hamilton provided us with inspiration, enthusiasm, humour and fantastic information on the difficulties of the English language - all this after leaving Manchester at 6am that morning! We worked on 3 completely different pieces/styles of music to challenge us and make for a varied and fun day. All ably assisted on the piano by Ian Twentyman.  We enjoyed a picnic lunch, gorgeous weather and visited the pub - what could be better!

Music covered:

My Soul There is a Country by C Hubert H Parry: this will be part of our November Concert, so a great piece to work on - very rousing.

Jesus austem transiens/Credo in Deum - Canon by Robert Wylkynson (c.1475-?1515) A beautiful medieval Canon that we didn't do full justice to but would be a lovely challenge for the choir.

It was a Lover and his Lass - John Rutter A completely different piece, modern and jazzy in style, fun but still tricky!
